A Day In The Life Of A Musician #97

Greetings Brothers and Sisters. Peanut here once again. Well my musical travels has taken me with Iron Lion over the weekend with three shows.

First up was in Charlottesville, VA @ The Box 11/10/2011

I rode over with Iron Lion and reached round 9pm and set up and ordered some food. I got stir dry vegetables and it was very good. While I was eating Brent the drummer and bassist Nick was loading in and setting up. We did a quick set up and started the show. First set was a little slow but the vibe of the band and Iron Lion was irie ,and those who where there enjoyed it.
Second set the vibe was much better since more people came in and it got pretty crowded and the response was nice. Iron Lion took them on a great reggae experience with a mixture of his originals and known covers. Ended the night with One Love with everyone singing along. We packed up pretty fast since we had another show the next night.

Next up was in Roanoke, VA @ Thelmas Chicken & Waffle 11/11/2011

Iron Lion picked me up and we reached the venue. Brent and Nick was already set up.Iron Lion and I loaded in and set up real quick. We did a quick sound check going over some new songs that Iron Lion  wanted to perform. After sound check we ate and started to play the first set.The vibe is always Irie at Thelmas and seeing some of the regulars in the house was good. Smiley and his Bredren from Jamaica was in the house showing some love. Iron Lion was paying attention to the woman in the house. We did a lot of lovers rock for the ladies and they loved it. We mixed in some Bob Barley and other roots classics that the people enjoyed as well. Iron Lion does good at giving the people what they want. The last set was high energy, with a segment when Smiley and his bredren touched the Mic on a dancehall track. Crowd was feeling the energy and the band was in tune with each other. Ended the night with Bob Marley's Redemption Song. Packed up again quick cause we had a long drive back and another show the next day.

The last show of this 3 show run was in Winchester, VA at T.C. Tootie's 11/12/2011

I picked up Brent and we rode down to meet at Iron Lion house. We packed up and headed down to the venue. Reached the venue and Jayson who was setting in on Bass met us there. Jayson is the bassist for Corey Harris & The Rasta Blues Experience. Unloaded and did a quick sound check. It was an early show so we didn't have a lot of time. I ordered some food and ate as I wrote out the song list for the show. I knew it was going to be interesting show, being they never had reggae there before. I could tell by looking around they was just as curious as we was.  Just before we started a guy came up to Iron Lion and myself and said, " you guys really going to play Jamaican music". We just laughed and said yes.

The first set was funny watching them kinda just looking at us and wondering and trying to figure out if they liked it or not. I loved how Iron Lion made them feel relaxed with talking with them and getting them to accept it. Big Up Lion. By the middle of the last set the people was into it and paying attention. The vibe was good. Ended the night with One Love with them singing along. Good site to see. We packed up and reasoned for a little bit and headed home.

On another note stay tune lots of good things coming up on my musical travels. I shall bring it all to all of you. Give thanks for reading and spreading the word about my blog. Muah love and appreciation.

Until next time, Peanut. Bless
