DON CAMPBELL (RUFF CUTT BAND)

"I have been trying to process this news since I heard and then getting all the messages flooding in it’s making what I wanted to be untrue, so very real.
Trying to put something in writing is proving to be so hard for me on this.

I can only say I am struggling with the passing of my dear long time friend, musical older brother and fellow artist, Vivian Jones. I had the honour of working with this humble and truly gifted gentleman within the reggae music industry. Together with my band, Undivided Roots, we created one of his greatest albums, “Bank Robbery” , a timeless project that will forever echo his spirit and talent.

I have endless memories of not only working in the studio with Vivian from my very young days to as adults our music took us on circuits together and some very crazy adventures including being stranded in parts of the country together and watching Vivian’s great charm to always make sure we were taken care of. Truthfully, thinking of all these memories today to sitting with him a few months ago and discussing the memories, the music, the good, the bad, the ugly, having a laugh and talking of Jamaica and so on, it really does cut to know we won’t be in person again or over the phone. I am grateful for each and every one of our memories.

Rest in eternal peace, my brother.
My deepest condolences go out to all of the family and loved ones. His legacy and music will live on forever.

DUB VENDOR
"We at Dub Vendor would like to add that Viv was a great friend of ours - he recorded for Fashion in the mid-nineties - and he will be sorely missed. He was also a much respected artist amongst the new generations of UK based roots fans who regarded early eighties recordings such as Who’s Gonna Get Caught and Flash It & Gwan as UK roots classics and sought his voice to grace their own productions. He cut the excellent album Jah Works for Jah Shaka in 1987 and the popular Red Eyes discomix. His recordings and collaborations with the likes of The Disciples, Channel One, Agobun, Mellow Vibes and Shere Khan as well as his own Imperial House productions firmly established Vivian as a shining talent on the modern reggae scene worldwide. RIEP Vivian"

GREENSLEEVES RECORDS

"Rest in power to the great Vivian Jones.

In a career spanning almost five decades Vivian created some incredible Roots and Lovers songs, including notable collaborations with Jah Shaka, Channel One Soundsystem, Fashion, Ruff Cutt, Jet Star, Stingray and many more as well as his own label Imperial House. As a masterful performer Vivian regularly toured all over the world, from sound systems to stage shows, and his collaborative output in recent years has brought his music to a whole new generation of fans.

Our thoughts are with all his family and friends at this difficult time."
