We are back with a very special Music & Talk evening. Our guest, author, journalist and sound engineer Helmut Philipps presents his latest book 'Dub Konferenz - 50 Jahre Dub aus Jamaika'. Musical accompaniment by Mighty Howard.

Helmut will read out of his book and tell wonderful stories about the most important protagonists and inventors of the genre such as Bunny Lee, David Rodigan, King Tubby or Lee Perry, which he experienced during his research in countless interviews.

:: We start shortly after 21:00, please come on time ::

Helmut has been part of the German and international reggae scene since the late 70s. He writes regularly for RIDDIM, Dubblog and other outlets. With "Dub Konferenz" he wrote the first ever biography about Jamaican dub in 2022.

An exciting book, entertaining and informative at the same time, he has unmasked many dub myth and revealed a partially new understanding of this strain of Jamaican music. For example, what makes Lee Scratch Perry so special, and what did he do differently from the other dub engineers in the Black Ark? Coincidentally, this year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the genre! Dub had its origins in the Jamaican sound system culture of the early '70s, as a tailored special or version of a popular track which the DJ could "toast" with new vocals. In 1973, the first dub albums emerged, including those by Lee Perry - Upsetters 14 Dub Black Board Jungle or Prince Buster - The Message Dubwise.

Strictly dubwise this evening.
