First, a giant congratulation to Ziggy Marley for acquiring his fifth Grammy! You are a master at your craft and continue to excel no matter what division of the music industry you attempt.

The show at the Grammy Museum, which took place the day before the Grammy Awards, was lots of fun and my 6-year-old date, Ravi, enjoyed it very much too. This was a series of performances by the nominees for the best performances in children’s music.  The line up included, Ziggy Marley, Buck Howdy, Dean Pitchford, Kathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Greg and Steve, Harlan Ellison, Jonathan Sprout, and Milkshake.

Ziggy’s performance was early in the show. All of the artists performed only 3 songs. Ziggy chose: Cry, Cry, Cry, I Love You, Too, and Family Time, the title song of his latest CD. During the whole set he was joined onstage by his two youngest children, daughter Judah, and son, Gideon. Judah joined in on vocals and was a high point of the set with her verse in the song Family Time. Gideon joined in on the drum. Ziggy was his usual spectacular self as he brought a touch of reggae to the audience which was at least 50 % children. His acoustic set included musicians Rock on congas, Tracey on backing vocals, Takeshi on guitar, and Santa on percussion.

I don’t know much about the other artists as I am a reggae journalist, but the whole day was lots of fun and each artist gave a fabulous set.  I know that these artists are veterans in the field of children’s albums. Congratulations to all for their nominations.
